Obscure 2 The Aftermath, or Obscure 2, for those who remember, is a survival horror game from the dawn of Playstation that takes place in an unidentified place filled with shadows and at night. The light is a rarity and the dark comes in pretty much at night. There are loads of zombies and other monsters around the place and you have to either fight your way through to make it to daylight or just die and die. Such a setting really makes a good horror game and the problem with Obscure 2 is that the gameplay is not too good. The AI is very weird and sometimes the controls are a little bit sluggish. The graphics are also below par considering the time they were made and what the game was made on. Add to this a weak story, sidequest system, and a rather short length and you just get a weak horror game.

One thing that Obscure 2 The Aftermath does do well in my opinion is the atmosphere. The story and setting are very creepy and something you actually would not expect to see in a PS2 game. The characters, environments, and the fear that you get from having so many shadows over your head in a dark hallway all make a good contribution to the overall atmosphere. The soundtrack is also quite good and the voice acting is decent for the time and at the time it was made. Of course, I am not at all surprised that it was released just on the PS2, but if this is indeed Obscure 2, it is better than the first one.

It’s hard to put into words what I think of this game. Sometimes it looks like an indie game, but it’s not one of those casual games where you play it for a few days and forget about it. Though, the plot is quite vague and vague plot is always dangerous. Obscure 2, the game that everybody thinks is so bad, is a lot more entertaining than some of the other games I have played here. The presentation is something that is kind of funny too, and the gameplay is a bit amusing. The balance of the game is pretty much fine. It is quite long and you have to earn everything, but the gameplay is still enjoyable. The story is quite confusing and vague, but it keeps you on your toes. The monsters look better than in the previous games, but the graphics are not the best either. There is no need to review this game if you liked the first one. Even if this is the game that you liked or disliked, you do not need to buy this one. It looks kind of cheap though, with its cramped look and a dark environment.
