In this short outline, we shall first consider the basic electrical machine, then the Inductance, and finally the Resistance in the transmission lines, as the examples of these three types of machines. We shall then describe, how these machines may be combined and connected in various ways, when these machines are used as motor, generator or motor-generator.

The study of these electrical machines is the most basic part of electricity engineering, as one cannot understand the working, of any electrical machine, without this knowledge.

Chapter 1: Introduction

In this chapter, we shall first consider what a machine is, how it may be constructed, what are its basic components and the difference between them. We shall then consider briefly the basic principles governing the work of any machine.

Chapter 2: Inductance and Resistance of Transmission Lines

Resistance of a conductor is due to the flow of electrons, while Inductance is due to the flowing of the electric current in the conductor. The basic electrical machine has a stator ( stationary ) part, where the electric current is directed, and a rotor ( movable ) part, where the magnetic flux is produced. A conductor has to be connected, to the stator and rotor, in order to achieve the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy, and the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy.

This chapter considers the characteristics of a conductor, from its basic parameters, and discusses the working of the basic electrical machine.

Chapter 3: Capacitance of Transmission Lines

The basic parts of a transmission line are the inductor and the capacitor. The basic concept is to connect the inductor, directly to the rotor of the basic electrical machine, through the transmission line.

This chapter considers the working of the basic electrical machine and the transmission line in the generator, the motor and the motor-generator, and discusses the important aspects of the three basic electrical machines.
